Walking for wellness!

Yesterday we walked for National Start! Walking Day, sponsored by the American Heart Association.  St. Anthony’s led this walk as part of our wellness program, an initiative to help employees improve their health.  We couldn’t have asked for a more beautiful day here in St. Louis.  (And it’s about time!)  A small group of us traded in 20 minutes of our lunch break to walk a total of 2/3 a mile around the hospital.  We could have made it an entire mile, but we had to stop for pictures!  Those who attended had positive feedback about gathering a walking group.  I was excited to have the opportunity to meet and get to know some of my fellow employees!

Taking just 20 minutes out of your day for a short walk makes worlds of difference in your physical health, mental health and energy level.  Added bonus: you’ll burn approximately 26,000 calories – enough calories to lose about seven pounds a year.  So use National Start!
